It is considered the Apu or main protector of the city of Cusco, according to the Andean tradition this mountain is considered as the representation of the Male energy that fertilizes mother earth or Pachamama, its waters being the ones that join the Willcamayu or Vilcanota river, touring the entire Sacred Valley of the Incas and Machupicchu, heading to the Amazon considered its route as the representation of the Milky Way. The Shaman will perform the ceremony as in the time of the Incas. The Nevado de Ausangate is located in the Andes mountain range in southern Peru in the Cusco region with a height of 6385 meters above sea level. access is through a paved road taking the route Cusco - Ocongate (4 hours by car and 3 hours walking). The best time of the year to visit this mountain is "dry" times (April - October) as it allows us to appreciate all its colorful beauty easily, try to avoid the "rainy" times (December - March), they are times in which enough snowfalls. We must bear in mind that in this experience it is essential to have a good physical condition to be able to walk at more than 4000 meters above sea level without difficulty.

 

Itinerary

DAY 1

(4:00 am - 15:00 pm)
Road to the snowy Ausangate
Cusco - Ocongate - Upis

Our meeting is at your accommodation, for approximately 4 hours and in private transport we will go to the south of the city of Cusco enjoying the landscape that the Huacarpay lagoon and the Urcos lagoon give us, arriving at the town of Tinke in Ocongate, being able to have breakfast and then continue until we reach the community of Upis (4140 masl) where a walk begins (basic - moderate) towards the Ausangate mountain, we will enjoy the presence of many llamas, alpacas, and sometimes vicuñas

In the afternoon we will settle in our camp located at the foot of the Nevado (optional HOT SPRINGS).

DAY 2

(8:00 am - 14:00 pm)
Visit to the Upis lagoon
Shamanic ceremony "Andean Offering"

Early in the morning after Breakfast, we will go to the lagoon located at the foot of the Nevado Ausangate a moderate walk for approximately 1 hour until we reach the foot of the Nevado, where the Andean ceremonies were carried out since long before the Incas, we will have the opportunity to enjoy both its unique landscape as well as the Andean ceremony performed by the Shaman, an «Andean Offering» that will be like a «gift» that we will take to the mountain as a symbol of communion and gratitude for the entire trip.

In the afternoon after lunch we will begin our return to the city of Cusco arriving at approximately 9:00 p.m.

What are the recommendations before the trip to Nevado Ausangate?

It is important to take into account the difficulty of the walk, which is Basic-Moderate with an approximate duration of 3 hours per day since we will ascend to a height of 4200 m.s.n.m. 

 

What should we take to Nevado Ausangate?

  1. Hat or sunscreen (sunglasses)
  2. Water (1 liter minimum per Day)
  3. Warm clothing (fleece, thermal, feathers)
  4. Waterproof hiking shoes
  5. Camera (optional)
  6. If you want you can share and bring the energy of personal things such as stones, quartz charms and images etc. all this in order to integrate the ceremony in unity.
